The Partnership for Public Service has released its rankings of the 2023 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government®.

NASA has once again topped the list for large federal agencies. It has held that spot for 12 years in a row.

Agencies in Last Place

Which agencies had the lowest rankings?

The Social Security Administration was in last place for large federal agencies. For midsize federal agencies, Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency came in last place out of 26 agencies. The Export-Import Bank is last in the small agencies category out of 30 total agencies.

Most Improved Agencies

For large federal agencies, the Department of Homeland Security is the most improved agency. Its score increased by 5.9 points to 60.8 out of 100.

For midsize agencies, the Federal Trade Commission went from 67.3 points in 2022 to 75.4 (+8.1), and the Consumer Product Safety Commission was most improved among small agencies, going from 63.2 points to 73 (+9.8).

The 2023 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® index score increased by 2.3 points over 2022, going from 63.4 out of 100 in 2022 to 65.7 out of 100 in 2023 which is an overall increase from last year in how federal employees view their agencies and jobs.
